Southwest University is building a research intensive centre for Software Research and Innovation.  The Centre is searching for three researchers at the level of professor/associate professor.  The Centre is to be led by Professor Zhiming Liu (http://www.bcu.ac.uk/zhiming-liu), who was recently appointed under the National Recruitment Programme of Thousands of Experts.

A successful candidate is expected to have a record showing ability to conduct innovative research in the core areas of the Centre, including theories, techniques and tools of software modeling, design, validation and verification, as well as their applications.

Furthermore, the candidate must have documented skills and commitment to high quality teaching.  Also there must be evidence of ability or potential to attract research funding from government and industry sources. International and national research collaboration will be considered an advantage for candidates.

A successful candidate will be expected to play a major role (leading role for a professor) in the development of the research portfolio of the Centre. Therefore, you will have to be a very good team player. It will be an advantage if your research is related to applications in the areas of Healthcare, Environment Management, Networked Critical Infrastructures, Modern Workflow and Products Management, and ICT in Agriculture.

Along with these three appointments, the Centre is also recruiting five research fellows. Those appointed as professors/associate professors will work closely with the research fellows and postgraduate students.

We plan to fill in these eight positions in 2016, and to recruit five more researchers in 2017. The professors and associate professors are expected to play a significant role in staff development of the Centre including recruitment.

The posts carry competitive salaries and benefits, either on full-time permanent contract with the university, or on specially designed contracts.

To apply, please include along with your cover letter two personal statements, one on your research plan and how you wish the research profile of the Centre to be developed, and one on your teaching experience at different levels and the methods of teaching you have used; your CV that contains the list of your publications; and copies of up to five selected publications; names and contact details (emails and telephone numbers) of three referees.  The application should be sent to HR office by email rencai@swu.edu.cn. The positions are open now and remain open till they are filled in.

The Centre for Software

The Centre for Software Research and Innovation (SRIC) at Southwest Universityis planned as a center for intensive research and technology innovation in the area of software engineering. It will work in the area of both empirical and formal software engineering, and the combination of the two. Interdisciplinary research is encouraged. The research will strive to further a strong interplay between theories of software and engineering practice. It conducts teaching and knowledge transfer activities to enhance the impact of its research findings. The general themes of research and innovation at the Centre cover:

·         Theories, techniques and tools of software requirements, specification, modelling, analysis, design, testing, and verification.

·         New modeling and programming paradigms and languages, including object-oriented component-based, and service-based programming, evolutionary digital ecosystems (IoT and Smart Cities) and cyber-physical component systems.

·         Knowledge based and deep learning based engineering.

·         The applications of the above researched methods to real world problems in trustworthy computing system development.

The technology transfer aims at solving pressing problems in areas like healthcare, environment management, disaster management, maintenance of networked critical infrastructures, modern workflow and products management, and ICT in agriculture. These applications share common or similar evolving “systems of systems architectures” with cyber-components managing big data, transmitting information, and controlling and coordinating physical components. They all contain components with dependability requirements of safety, security, real-time and fault-tolerance. The research supporting these application areas is thus multidisciplinary, needing collaboration with experts in database system and big data, communication and networks, and domain experts.

The Centre will play an important role in consolidating and collaborating with other groups and centres at Southwest University, as well as with research centres and companies inside and outside China.

The Centre has strong supports from the central government and municipality government of Chongqing, as well as the University and the Faculty. In particular, we have a seed funding of 10 million RMB for the first five years and a comfortable 100 square metres of lab space.  The Centre will also enjoy a wide network of active national and international collaborations.
